Ski at the bay was last night. Madison asked to play with a little girl who's family was starting a fire next to us. She asked for a water bottle, so I gave her one. The the other 2 siblings proceeded to come and They all ended up with cookies, chips, and a water bottle running back to mom like it was gold! Later Madison told me they lived in their car at the campground and made dinner each night here. I couldn't help but feel horrible when I thought how I threw away cooked food because no one wanted it, the oatmeal cookies were all left because they weren't the "best ones" in the box or how the Lays plain chips were left because they didn't have flavor.... But this little girl was happy as can be just to have a friend to play with that night!!! Really makes you reconsider what your needs are!!!!!!! I couldn't help of thinking of the 2 bags of clothes I got rid of from Madison because its a new year and they are a bit ratty, she HAS to have new ones!!!! That's tradition. Right??? How shallow of a society we often are! I am so grateful that as Madison told me this little girls story to her it didn't matter. Just a set back in life. She played with her as she was no different then her. Would we have done the same or felt we were to good, or better than them? Last night as I crawled into bed I was so heavy hearted to think they didn't have a bed, where will these 3 little kids go to school, did they get ANY new clothes for school? I felt bad for not noticing their need then, should I go back, what if I could just love them somehow that would have made their night..... Why don't we look at the people around us more often and wonder what their story is, how are they hurting, and how should I be helping??? I knew something was not quite right and missed a great opportunity!!!!!
